5-Day Marrakech Itinerary: Medina, Atlas, Agafay and Essaouira

Five days based in Marrakech: the medina, a day in the Atlas, the Agafay desert, the Atlantic coast and time to relax, with a local guide.

A practical 5-day Marrakech itinerary with the medina, day trips, desert activities, a cooking class and a hammam.

Written by the Highlights Morocco Tours team in Marrakech

The short answer

A 5-day Marrakech itinerary can combine two days in the city, a day trip to the Atlas, an evening in the Agafay desert and a day trip to Essaouira, with time for a cooking class and a hammam. Marrakech is a good base because every excursion starts and ends in the same riad.

Marrakech is much more than the medina. In five days you can see the city, the mountains, the desert and the coast without changing hotels.

It is a typical plan, not a fixed script. We adapt it to your dates and interests and we can swap any day. If you would like to continue to the Sahara, see our 2, 3 and 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga tours.

Tips for this itinerary

  • Distances are long. Plan the longest days for the road and keep museum visits for the shorter ones.
  • Bring light layers and a warm jacket for the desert night, and modest clothes for villages and religious sites.
  • Carry some dirham in cash for markets, drinks and tips.
  • Stay in riads in the medinas: they are part of the experience.
  • Tell us if you want to slow down: we can add nights or remove a city.

5-day Morocco itinerary: frequently asked questions

Is 5 days enough for Morocco?

Yes. Five days is a good length for Marrakech with day trips. You can see the medina, the mountains, the desert and the coast, based in one riad.

What is the best 5-day Marrakech itinerary?

A popular 5-day Marrakech itinerary combines the medina, a day trip to the Atlas Mountains, an evening in the Agafay desert, a day trip to Essaouira, and a cooking class or a hammam.

Can I visit the Sahara from Marrakech in 5 days?

Yes, but it needs at least 2 days: our 2-day tour takes you to Merzouga or Zagora with a night in a desert camp. For a day in Marrakech, the Agafay desert is a shorter option.

Can I change the cities in the itinerary?

Yes. We tailor the route to your dates and interests. We organise tours from Marrakech, Casablanca, Fes, Rabat, Tangier and Errachidia.

Is a base in Marrakech better than moving hotels?

For many travellers, yes. You unpack once and join a private day trip each morning. If you want to see more of the country, we also offer longer itineraries.

Is a private tour better than a group tour?

A private tour with a driver and a local guide saves time on long distances and in the medinas, and you can change the route as you go. We only run private tours.

How much does a 5-day Morocco tour cost?

The price depends on your dates, the number of travellers, the accommodation and the cities. We quote on request, and quotes are free and come with no obligation.

How do I book a 5-day Morocco itinerary with Highlights Morocco Tours?

Send us your dates and number of travellers with the contact form, by WhatsApp or by email. We reply with a free, no-obligation quote and, when you are happy with it, we confirm the booking.
